CUSTOM SOFTWARE

Build the tool your operation needs.

When spreadsheets, inboxes and disconnected tools stop working together, a focused application can give people a clearer place to work. The first release should solve a specific problem well.

An agreed scope comes before a build. Pricing depends on the project.

TRY THE POSSIBILITIES

A small example. A useful starting point.

Explore three concepts with sample data, then build your brief around the one that fits.

Start with the work.

A custom application needs more than a polished screen. It needs a defined user journey, reliable data, appropriate access and an understandable release plan. We start with the work people need to complete, then shape the interface and supporting application around it.

What a project can cover

  • Define the first user journey and the smallest useful release.
  • Map the information, user roles and permissions required.
  • Design clear screens with loading, empty, error and success states.
  • Build the agreed application and integrations with appropriate validation.
  • Verify critical workflows and document deployment, ownership and ongoing support.

AN ILLUSTRATIVE STARTING POINT

Example scope: an internal job-tracking tool

A small operation needs to see open jobs, owners and next steps. A first release could let authorized staff create a job, assign responsibility, update its status and view a filtered list. Customer logins, invoicing, inventory and mobile apps would be additional decisions. This is an illustrative scope, not a claim about an existing client deployment.

Know what success looks like.

Write down what an authorized user must be able to complete, which information must persist, and what another role must not be able to access. Verify those conditions after release. Agree on backups, service costs and who handles maintenance before treating the application as part of daily operations.

Bring these questions to the brief.

  1. Who will use the tool, and what is their most important task?
  2. What information must be stored, imported or exported?
  3. Which people should be able to see or change each record?
  4. What would make the first release useful enough to start using?
